Section 37-3-11 of the Mississippi Code of 1972, Annotated, requires the State Superintendent of Education to provide to the legislature a report on selected statistical information at the state and/or district level. Prior to the 1996-97 school year (1998 Report), the "Superintendent's Annual Report" was published as a booklet. Beginning with the 1996-97 school year, the Report was published both on-line and in the traditional booklet form. Beginning with the 2003-04 school year (Report 2005), the Superintendent's Annual Report was published on-line exclusively.

The Mississippi Report Card is provided as an evaluation tool for Mississippi's public school districts. Prior to the 1997-98 school year, the "Mississippi Report Card" was published as a booklet. Beginning with the 1997-98 school year, the Report Card was published both on-line and in the traditional booklet form. Beginning with the 2003-04 school year, the Mississippi Report Card was published on-line exclusively.

Traditionally, the two reports have been produced independently but have contained very similar data. As technology has evolved and the Department has attempted to make the reports more user-friendly, the next logical step is to combine the reports.

Beginning with the 2005-2006 school year, both the Superintendent's Annual Report and the Mississippi Report Card will be published on-line as one report. Prior publications will remain as originally published. Links to all on-line versions follow.
